These Time Management Mistakes Are Stealing Your Life Away

Learn how to regain control by identifying common mistakes and learn techniques to solve them.

Hi there!

Today, we’ll discuss three major time management mistakes many of us dwell with. Let me know if this topic resonates with you and I’ll be happy to share some other “mistakes” that I help my clients overcome.

🧠 On My Mind:

Time is life, and wasting time means you are wasting your life.

These mistakes are stealing your life away:

1. Getting Hung up on Sunk Costs:

The sunk cost fallacy keeps us in bad situations because of past investments.

  • Staying in broken relationships

  • Staying in hated jobs because of a degree

  • Sticking with projects even when innovation is needed

  • “Some day I’ll use it” for clothes and subscription services

2. Not Being Clear on Your Priorities:

We often feel “like a plastic bag drifting through the wind” because we lack clear priorities. The biggest waste is working hard on the wrong things.

3. People Pleasing - Saying “Yes” Too Much:

Saying “yes” to everything means others control your time. If you default to “no” you will regain control over your life.

🔍 The Why:

Understanding these challenges helps you live fully and overcome frustration and overwhelm.

  • Frustration: Lack of control over time.

  • Overwhelm: Not knowing where to start.

🕰️ When to Take Notice:

Reflect on your time management mistakes. Addressing them can give you freedom!

Journal Prompt:

What is one habit wasting your time, and how can you change it to use your time better?

🏆 Transformative Moments:

1. People Pleasing - Saying “Yes” Too Much:

Identify something not working in your life. Address it head-on. Continuing to invest in it is a fallacy. The choice is yours!

2. Not Being Clear on Your Priorities:

Activity:

  1. Write down as many goals as possible in 10 minutes.

  2. Highlight those achievable in 3-12 months.

  3. Star the top 5 goals (extra points if the goals align with each H of your 5 H’s).

Avoid non-starred goals—they are distractions!

3. People Pleasing - Saying “Yes” Too Much:

Before saying “yes”, ask yourself:

  • Is it aligned with my values and future vision?

  • Is it the best use of my time?

  • Will it create future opportunities?

Take action today, free up time, and regain control of your life.
